British Values at Honington Church of England Primary School

At Honington Church of England Primary School, we aim to support children in becoming thoughtful, kind and resilient members of society. Our Christian ethos underpins all that we do, rooted in our vision of “life in all its fullness” (John 10:10) and a commitment to aspiration for all, encouraging every child to flourish and achieve their potential. These principles guide how we introduce and reflect British values across all aspects of school life.

Democracy
We encourage pupils to share their views and take part in decisions that affect school life. Opportunities such as school council and class discussions help children understand how group decision-making works and how everyone can contribute to their community, nurturing confidence and aspiration in their voices being heard.

The Rule of LawThe Rule of Law
Understanding the purpose of rules helps to create a calm and respectful environment. Through our school rules and curriculum, pupils learn why laws exist, how they protect us, and the responsibilities that come with them. Where appropriate, visitors such as local police officers help to reinforce these messages.

Individual Liberty
Children are encouraged to make choices and express themselves within a safe, supportive environment. Through PSHE, e-safety and wider learning, pupils develop an understanding of their rights and responsibilities and how to make informed, positive choices. We support pupils to grow in confidence and independence, living out our vision of enabling all to flourish.

Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our school community. We promote an environment where pupils listen to one another, value different opinions and show kindness in their interactions. As reflected in “Do to others as you would have them do to you” (Luke 6:31), children learn to treat others with dignity and compassion. Collaborative work and shared experiences support the development of empathy and cooperation.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Through our RE curriculum, collective worship and wider experiences, pupils learn about a range of cultures, faiths and beliefs. These opportunities encourage understanding, curiosity and respect for diversity within our community and beyond, reflecting the Christian teaching to “love your neighbour as yourself” (Mark 12:31).

By embedding these values throughout school life, Honington Church of England Primary School supports children in becoming responsible, respectful and active members of society. Our vision of aspiration for all and live life in all its fullness ensures every child is encouraged to shine and make a positive difference in the world.
